Our Family Club

We are a family friendly, martial arts club, the next generation of ESKA Stevenage (2021), originally formed in 1976 by the late GREAT Sensei Nursey (9th Dan).  Honouring the spirit of Sensei Nursey’s legacy, Sensei ‘G’ (Graham) now leads the main ESKA Stevenage club.

The style of karate we practise is Shotokan and our club is affiliated with the English Shotokan Karate Association (ESKA).  All our instructors are fully qualified, DBS checked, hold valid first aid certificates & have full public indemnity insurance.  We encourage both juniors & adults to train together to allow families to exercise together.

Juniors share the promise of achieving the Karate-Ka of the Month Medal through a display of great dedication, fantastic attitude, regular training with great discipline & respect for other Karate-Ka and sets an example for others to follow.

There is of course also the Karate-Ka of the Year Award which we launched in 2024 which all juniors pine after on their journey towards Black Belt.

All students have the opportunity to grade and progress on their journey towards Black Belt.  Gradings are held once a quarter and take place in collaboration with ESKA’s other 23 clubs at the Stevenage Head Quarters.

ESKA Stevenage participate in an annual ESKA competition that takes entrants for Kata and Kumite excellence.  Sometimes multiple competitions are held each year which provide the opportunity for Karate-Ka to showcase their talent and take home a medal/trophy.

All Karate-Ka are offered concentration sessions (by invitation & FREE of charge) to provide additional support, giving every chance of grading success on their journey towards Black Belt.
